I was pleased to see the Bemelmans painting exceed our expectations. In fact, there was strong bidding all around, with some prices making it feel like it was fifteen years ago. Overall a great sale.”

— Kevin Bruneau

CRANSTON , R.I., UNITED STATES, April 30, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — CRANSTON, R.I. – A Spanish street painting titled Palma De Mallorca Street Scene by the French-American artist Ludwig Bemelmans (1898-1962), best known as the illustrator for the popular Madeline children’s book series, sold for $13,750 to take top lot honors at Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers’ Antiques & Fine Art Estate Auction, a 356-lot sale conducted on April 14th.

The sale was held online and in the Bruneau & Co. gallery, at 63 Fourth Avenue in Cranston. “I was pleased to see the Bemelmans painting exceed our expectations,” said Kevin Bruneau, the president and auctioneer of Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers. “In fact, there was strong bidding all around, with some prices making it feel like it was fifteen years ago. It was overall a great sale.”

The casein paint, ink and pencil on board by Bemelmans measured 26 inches by 30 inches in the frame and depicted a quaint strip of homes in Palma, the capital of the Balaeric Islands of Spain. It was signed and dated 1956. Bemelmans was truly an international artist. He was born in what was then Austria-Hungary (now Italy) to a Belgian father and German mother. His first language was French (his second was German). He emigrated to the U.S. and became a citizen in 1918.

The rest of the sale was an eclectic mix of merchandise from a diverse array of categories. “Strong results were seen for French furniture and decorative arts when compared to years past,” said Travis Landry, a Bruneau & Co. specialist and auctioneer. “Competitive bidding brought the French Neoclassical bronze figural group to a private collection in Egypt, followed by a pair of parquetry inlaid bombe chests to Canada. You never know where things are going to end up.”

The fine and large French Neoclassical bronze figural group showed a courting couple standing near a plant stand. The couple stood 26 inches tall but, when added to an ormolu bronze mounted rouge marble base, the overall height was 36 inches. The piece was signed “Dumege” and stamped “Made in France” and, at $5,625, was one of two other lots to top the $5,000 mark.

The other was a 19th century Italian Carrera marble fountain bowl base, which fetched $5,312. It was part of a delightful selection of exterior architectural antiques in the auction. The bowl, 38 inches in diameter and 22 inches tall, was quatrefoil form, with foliate ornamentation in relief, decorated with birds on either side. It was supported by four marble pedestals, all later added.

Another exterior architectural antique that drew much bidder attention was a monumental 18th century (or older) Indian carved stone temple doorway – about 7 feet tall by 4 feet wide ($3,438). It was sold in place, at the estate where it currently resides in Providence, R.I., and consisted of upright columns, two overhead lentils and a footer stone, with carvings of deities throughout.

Following are additional highlights from the auction. All prices quoted include the buyer’s premium. Internet bidding was facilitated by LiveAuctioneers.com, Bidlive.Bruneauandco.com, Invaluable.com and Bidsquare.com. Telephone and absentee (left) bids were also accepted.

A large circa 1880 Japanese Meiji period carved wood etagere, 96 inches tall, found a new owner for $3,835. The etagere was profusely carved hardwood with multiple hand-decorated impasto painted panels of landscapes, with several shelves on a Kang form base. Also, a late 19th century jade rock crystal bronze shelf clock, made in China and Switzerland, with a rock crystal bangle embellished dial flanked by opposing birds clutching branches with two peaches, made $2,812.

A Queen Anne stained tiger maple highboy, made in New England in the 18th century, 76 inches tall, having five graduated drawers over two vertical over three drawers with a fan-carved center, supported by stout cabriole legs with a shapely skirt, finished at $2,500; while a fine 18th century American Chippendale carved gilt and gesso mirror with Aesthetic chinoiserie design, having a full-figured phoenix bird crest adorning a shapely pierced foliate frame, 54 inches tall hit $4,688.

An oil on canvas impressionist landscape painting signed by Gustave Cimiotti, Jr. (N.Y., 1875-1969), possibly depicting the Bear Mountain region of New York and housed in a period Arts and Crafts frame measuring 24 inches by 20 ½ inches, changed hands for $1,375. Also, a late 19th or early 20th century antique Turkish Oushak Oriental wool carpet rug, 14 feet 6 inches by 12 feet 3 inches, with a central floral and tendril field and geometric borders, brought $2,250.

Bruneau & Co. has three auctions lined up for May. A Military, Firearm & Weapon Auction will be held Saturday, May 5th, at 10 am; and a Pop Culture, Street Art & Unusual Art Auction will be held Saturday, May 12th, at 11 am. Both will have live and online bidding. Also, an Antique & Collectible DiscoverIt Auction (no online bidding) will be held on Friday, May 14th, at 6 pm.

The hobby continues to show surprising levels of activity on all fronts, from vintage to modern cards, sports and non-sport, high-grade to low-grade, you name it.”

— Dave Thorn

DENVER, COLO., UNITED STATES, April 27, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — DENVER, Colo. – Small Traditions’ internet-only Spring Premium Auction, online now and ending on Saturday, May 5th, is highlighted by the Cardbull Hank Aaron collection and the K-15 Koufax! Collection. Together they showcase dozens of some of the highest-graded and most coveted baseball cards in existence. The auction is open for bidding at www.smalltraditions.com.

The Cardbull Collection features PSA 9 graded copies of every one of Hank Aaron’s standard Topps issues (except his 1954 rookie card, 1958 Yellow Letter variation and 1960 issue, which are all in PSA 8 condition). Several Pop 1 highest graded Hank Aaron oddball issues are also in the sale. Hank Aaron is in the Baseball Hall of Fame and is second all-time on the home run list.

The Cardbull Collection is a complete run of the 23 basic Topps cards printed during Aaron’s stellar career, which ran from 1954-1976. The cards have earned a sparkling 8.87 GPA, ranking this PSA-graded collection among the finest in the hobby. The work of Mr. Cardbull, a single, dedicated private collector, many of these cards have not been on the market for nearly 20 years.

The K-15 Koufax! Collection includes many of the hobby's rarest regional and oddball issues featuring the legendary Dodger southpaw. The "K-15 Koufax!" moniker is a reference to Sandy's record-setting 15-K performance in Game 1 of the 1963 World Series. Afterward, newspaper headlines around the country simply read, "K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-oufax!"

The K-15 Koufax! Collection is a Southern California trove that was only recently discovered. Upon sorting the collection, Small Traditions experts counted at least 15 items – over 10 percent of the 146-card Koufax Master Set Registry – that they were able to promise the consignor would grade as the single highest copies on record. Half of those were offered in a prior auction.

The auction also features dozens of Hall of Fame rookie cards in various grades; highly graded Mickey Mantle cards; a strong selection of Derek Jeter cards; a 1963 Kahn's Jim Brown graded PSA 9 Pop 2; the first-ever 1986 Memphis Chicks Bo Jackson Gold rookie card graded PSA 1; and Japanese Calbee cards featuring Ichiro Suzuki from his playing days in Japan (1994-2001). Every one of the 54 cards, many of which are rare in any condition, is graded PSA 10 Gem Mint.

These highlights barely cover the auction's first 100 lots, but the full catalog contains 1,000 lots, plus there are significant cardboard treasures scattered throughout. The auction went live on April 23rd and heated up quickly, setting several Small Traditions auction records within 24 hours. The 15-minute rule will be observed on May 5th. Phone and absentee bids will be taken.

According to Small Traditions owner Dave Thorn, "The hobby continues to show surprising levels of activity on all fronts, from vintage to modern cards, sports and non-sport, high-grade to low-grade, you name it. There are waves of eager new bidders, and they range from young girls and boys bidding with their parents and grandparents to professional athletes and Hollywood movie producers diversifying their long-term investment portfolios. Cards are hot commodities.”
Small Traditions LLC has been an eBay Powerseller since the late 1990s and is embarking on its seventh year of running independent auctions at its own website (www.smalltraditions.com) with the powerful SimpleAuctionSite/Barnebys platform. The company focuses mainly on regional and oddball issues. It specializes in helping collectors to maximize the value of their collections by identifying such issues, which often go unnoticed in bulk collection sales, and then grading any card (standard or regional/oddball) determined to have at least a $50 to $100 market value.

Small Traditions charges a zero percent sellers’ rate for this work, and there is no cost to its consignors for grading up to 500 cards at one time. The company pays for all grading fees up front, which are subtracted later from eventual sales at discounted rates. For larger collections, the company negotiates a reasonable collection management fee of 10 percent to 20 percent.

Small Traditions’ seasonal Premium Auctions are typically their strongest online auctions of the year. The Spring sale is traditionally very strong. Interested bidders should know the majority of cards auctioned by Small Traditions come to the company in raw ungraded form, from collectors or inheritors who turn to Small Traditions for help with grading and collection management.

Visit the auction today at http://smalltraditions.com/catalog.aspx. Small Traditions is always seeking quality cards for future auctions. To inquire about consigning a single card or an entire collection, call 303-832-1975; or, send an e-mail to info@smalltraditions.com. Learn how you can grade and auction your cards without any cost or obligation. To learn more about Small Traditions and the auction ending Saturday, May 5th, please visit www.smalltraditions.com.

Kim Habibi Explains How To Save Money On Your Taxes

These simple steps could save a lot of money for residents

SARASOTA, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, April 26, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — It's tax season and citizens of the United States are scrambling to get their taxes in on time. Many people do not know how to file their federal or state obligations correctly let alone how to save money. Kim Habibi wants to hold a workshop to help people save money when they finish their taxes.

Habibi wants people to know they can have deductions on their taxes. These deductions include mortgage interest, student loan interest, real estate taxes, and many more. Lowering a person's tax burden has become the goal for Habibi.

Other options to achieve lowering the tax burden are retirement contributions, credit for child care costs and qualified education costs.

For those who are not good at math or numbers, the more deductions a person can claim, the less they will pay out of pocket.

Habibi provides these tips to those trying to save money when filing their taxes.

Take Advantage OF Child Care Credits
The tax code and law offers several benefits to parents, including credit for child care costs. Also, the child tax credit, which is worth up to $1,000 for each child under the age of 17, allows parents to get money back.

The ability to count more dependents in the household allows more earnings for child care credits. Also, alimony payments are tax deductible.

Put Money Into College Savings

Just a fraction of parents create a 529 college savings accounts for their children. This option means others miss out on the tax advantage of letting the funds grow tax-free.

As long as the capital goes toward tuition, parents do not have to pay taxes on the earnings.

Saving Money For Retirement
Voluntarily lowering your take-home paycheck by upping your retirement contributions can be painful in the short term. But the option offers two benefits.

First, a person can beef up their retirement savings. Second, the person lowers their tax burden. Money funneled into specific types of retirement accounts, including IRAs and 401(k)s, is tax deductible. There are limits when using this option.

Giving Away Money
Contributions to charities aren't the only type of tax-deductible gift, says Habibi. A person can also receive up to $13,000 without paying taxes.

Another option allows parents to join forces to give each child $26,000. This technique is called "gift splitting."

Become More Energy Efficient
The federal government encourages taxpayers to make their homes more energy efficient. For those who do accomplish this, the government offers a variety of tax credits for projects.

These projects include installing insulation, new windows and doors, and qualified cooling and heating systems.

Also, other alternative energy sources, including solar panels, are also eligible for tax credits from the government.

Preparing Your Taxes

If a person hires a professional to develop their taxes, they can expect to spend more than $400 if the return requires more than just a basic form. But if a person wants to save money, there are tax software that will complete your taxes for free.

Also, the government allows those who make less than $58,000 for the year to file on the IRS's website for no cost. As long as the person is comfortable filing their taxes, they can make sure no out of pocket costs have occurred.

Habibi says this list is just the tip of the iceberg when saving money on taxes. The workshop Habibi wants to can teach more tricks and tips that can become used during every tax season.

Before spending hundreds of dollars for someone else to complete their taxes, they should research on doing it on their own. But Habibi says there are many ways to lower costs to file and save money while doing it. Saving money can lead to more opportunities for a better life.

To read more about Kim Habibi, you can read why understanding accounting is so important.

DOUGLASS, KS, UNITED STATES, April 26, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — DOUGLASS, Kan. – Part 1 of the lifetime collection of R.S. Prussia antique porcelain from the late John and Lavaun Headlee of Illinois – nearly all the pieces in the rare cobalt blue color – will be sold at public auction on Saturday, May 26th, by Woody Auction, in the firm’s new Douglass gallery located at 130 East Third Street, starting at 9:30 am Central time. It will be an absolute auction, with no reserves.

The Headlees were beloved members of the R.S. Prussia Collectors Club, and word quickly spread that their 40-year collection focused almost exclusively on cobalt blue examples. “An auction with just ten percent cobalt blue pieces is special, but the Headlee collection – and this is just Part 1 – features over 99 percent cobalt blue in this exquisite sale,” said Jason Woody of Woody Auction, based in Douglass.

Mr. Woody added, “Not only the color, but the condition of the gold and overall scenery was especially important to the Headlees. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend one of the finest single collections of R.S. Prussia ever brought to auction.” A preview will be held on Friday, May 25th, from 2-6 pm Central time. Online bidding is available now, at www.liveauctioneers.com/woody-auction-llc.

R.S. Prussia cobalt blue bowls will be offered in abundance. One – a 15-inch carnation mold example, yellow and cobalt blue with pink and yellow rose décor and gold stencil highlights – is possibly the finest 15-inch bowl Woody Auction has ever offered. Three other stippled mold bowls, having cobalt blue borders with strong gold trim and gold stencil, show (one each) scenes of winter, fall and summer.

A berry set marked R.S. Prussia comprising a 10-inch master bowl, cobalt blue with a carnation décor and gold stencil highlights, with six 5 ½ inch matching berry dishes, is just one of the lovely sets in the auction. Another is a three-piece tea set featuring a 5-inch-tall pot with matching creamer and sugar, cobalt blue with a stylized carnation décor and strong stencil highlights.

Two unmarked chocolate sets are also expected to get paddles wagging. One has an 11 ¾ inch pot, cobalt blue with a stylized carnation décor and gold stencil highlights, six rare demitasse-size cups and six saucers. The other consists of a 9 ¼ inch medallion mold pot, cream with a large medallion portrait of Lebrun, and four matching cups and saucers with Renaissance portraits.

A 10-inch carnation mold chocolate pot will be sold, cobalt blue with a carnation décor, boasting excellent gold stencil and gold trim. Also offered will be an unmarked 12-inch Royal Vienna two-handled vase (Mold 2), cobalt blue, with a scene of a woman feeding her chickens.

Rounding out just some of the sale’s expected top lots are an 11 ¾ inch diameter marked R.S. Prussia plate, stipple mold, with a fall season portrait décor having poppy highlights, a wonderful cobalt blue border and extensive gold stenciling – a magnificent piece; and an 11 ½ inch tall marked Royal Vienna tankard with a figural tulip handle, cobalt blue with a portrait of a young peasant girl wearing a hat.

For lodging, there are three hotels in the area. The Comfort Inn, new to Augusta, KS (316-260-3006); the Holiday Inn Express, in Andover, KS (316-733-8833); and the Hampton Inn, in Derby, KS (316-425-7900) are all within a 15-20 minute drive from the Woody auction facility. Woody Auction will conduct regular auction events in the Douglass location and occasionally at other venues in the area.

The new 5,000-square-foot showroom is located at 130 East Third Street in Douglass – south and east of Wichita, not far from Interstate 35 and Hwy. 54/Kellogg Rd. Moving forward, most auctions will be held in the Douglass gallery, starting at 9:30 am Central time, unless otherwise noted. The firm has a full slate of auctions lined up for the rest of 2018 and into next year. These will include the following:
