A Tiffany Bamboo floor lamp and a Tiffany diamond ring combine for a robust $424,800 at Cottone Auctions, March 23-24

Fine and rare Tiffany Studios bamboo floor lamp, circa 1910, with 24-inch diameter shade ($241,900)

Tiffany & Company vintage 5.25-carat diamond ring set in platinum, color E, clarity VS1 ($182,900)

Watercolor, India ink and pastel on paper by Joan Miro (Sp., 1893-1983), signed lower right ($64,900)

Italian Renaissance style walnut secretary by Luigi Frullini (It., 1839-1897), 8 feet 4 inches tall ($54,280).

Late 19th century Chinese carved hardwood and silk six-panel screen with carved foo dog base ($42,480).

Tiffany led the list of top lots at Cottone Auctions’ two-day Spring Fine Art & Antiques Auction held March 23rd and 24th, online and in Geneseo, New York.

We had some great items with excellent provenance. Participation was strong both nationally and internationally. The market continues to be solid for the right merchandise. ”

— Matt Cottone

GENESEO, NY, UNITED STATES, March 29, 2018 / — GENESEO, N.Y. – Tiffany led the list of top lots at Cottone Auctions’ two-day Spring Fine Art & Antiques Auction held March 23rd and 24th, as a rare Tiffany Studios ‘Bamboo’ leaded glass and bronze floor lamp lit up the room for $241,900 and a fine, vintage Tiffany & Company 5.25-carat diamond ring slipped onto a new finger for $182,900, combining for a staggering $424,800.

They were easily the top achievers in a 576-lot sale that posted an overall gross of $1.9 million. “We had some great items with excellent provenance,” said Matt Cottone of Cottone Auctions. “Participation was strong nationally and internationally. The market continues to be solid for the right merchandise. We try to have carefully curated sales limited to 350 lots or less per day.”

The 'Bamboo' leaded glass and bronze floor lamp on a 'Bamboo' senior base, made circa 1910, featured a shade signed “Tiffany Studios New York”. The ‘Bamboo’ lampshade is one of a handful of models produced by Tiffany Studios that incorporated curved panels of glass, a labor-intensive, time-consuming process in which individual pieces were cut.

After being cut, the pieces were then placed in a kiln and heated until they slumped to conform to the contours of the mold. The ‘Bamboo’ series of lamps was first introduced shortly before the firm's initial price list, published in 1906, then discontinued in 1913, likely due to the time and cost of their production. The lamp sold stands 67 inches tall.

The vintage Tiffany & Company 5.25-carat diamond ring, from an estate in Rochester, N.Y., was set in platinum and came with a flattering GIA report. The round brilliant diamond boasted color E and clarity VS1, and had good cut. Both sides were bar set with tapered baguettes, having an estimated weight of .45 carats and VVS clarity, E-F color.

A crowd of 100-150 people attended the auction in person, at Cottone’s Geneseo gallery, while over 2,000 others registered to bid online, via, and the Cottone Auctions website, Phone and absentee bids were also taken. Following are additional highlights from the sale. All prices quoted include the buyer’s premium.

A watercolor, India ink and pastel painting on paper by the renowned Spanish artist Joan Miro (1893-1983), signed “Miro” and dated “2/VI/64” on the reverse, 11 ¼ inches by 14 ¼ inches, previously on display at the Galerie Maeght in Paris, brought $64,000. Miro was a sculptor, painter and ceramicist. A museum dedicated to his work exists in his home town of Barcelona.

Two other artworks posted identical selling prices of $22,420. One was an oil on canvas painting by William Aiken Walker (Charleston, S.C., 1838-1921), titled Cotton Picker (1886), artist signed, measuring 18 inches by 10 inches. The other was a 26 inch by 36 inch oil on canvas by Jack Lorimer Gray (Canadian, 1927-1981), titled The Foghorn, signed and in the original frame.

An Italian Renaissance-style walnut secretary, made in Florence around 1870 by Luigi Frullini (It., 1839-1897), covered with beautifully carved panels and borders of flowers, leaves and conventional figures, hit $54,280. Four doves in flight were depicted on the main panel of the 8 foot 4 inch tall secretary, while a dove with outstretched wings surmounted a dial face above.

A late 19th century Chinese carved hardwood and silk six-panel screen with a carved foo dog base and featuring exotic birds and foliage, overall 6 feet 11 inches tall by 12 feet 6 inches wide (with each panel 23 inches wide) realized $42,480. Also, a 19th century Native American Zia pot with three colors and moths, 19 inches tall, brought $9,440 despite a chip and a hairline crack.

A scarce Tiffany Studios bronze butterfly inkwell, signed “Tiffany Studios New York 862” and with an iridescent blue insert and cover and a brownish green patina, just 3 inches in height, went for $21,830; while a Steuben pink to blue Cintra paperweight cologne (or perfume) bottle, signed, shape #6941, 10 inches tall, in excellent shape, with no chips or cracks, rose to $12,980.

Rounding out just some of the sale’s top-selling lots, a rare horse-drawn fire tower toy, circa 1900, made of cast iron, wood and steel and attributed to the American LaFrance Fire Engine Company, 16 inches tall by 61 inches long, roared off for $11,800; and a pair of watercolor and gouache paintings of shore birds by Archibald Thorburn (Scottish, 1860-1935), signed lower left and lower right and dated 1931, 7 inches by 9 ½ inches (sight), were sold as one lot for $10,325.

Cottone Auctions’ next big sale is planned for Friday and Saturday, May 11th and 12th, also online and in the Geneseo gallery. The sale will feature a great selection of fine art, clocks, Steuben, art glass, estate jewelry and other items. Finding the Right Shaft for Your Game

Think you know a lot about golf shafts? Think again!

Terms like stiff or regular flex are so generalized, they essentially mean nothing. Different sections of the shaft can be totally different flexes.”

— Gawain Robertson

Get Shafted!
Finding the Right Shaft for Your Game

Willowbrook, IL – Think you know a lot about golf shafts? Think again! Did you know there are no standards for shaft flex? It can mean something different for every manufacturer. Playability tolerances in each category of stiff or regular are vast! To understand this better, I spoke with several shaft industry leaders: Fujikura’s Sales Manager Chad Embrey; Victor Afable, CEO of VA Composites; Gawain Robertson, Owner of ACCRA Shafts; and Nick Sherburne, co-founder of Club Champion.

Club Champion is the #1 premium club fitter, builder and retailer of the best brands in golf. Their master fitters and builders are unrivaled experts whose approach is unbiased, where no specific vendor is promoted. The only goal is to find the best combination of components to lower your scores. Club Champion offers over 35,000 hittable shaft and head combinations, making Sherburne an expert on this topic.

“The industry taught us the club head is the engine of the golf club because that’s “what hits the ball”, but the shaft is far more important.” Sherburne says. “With thousands of shaft options and no industry ‘flex’ standards, it’s nearly impossible for golfers to find the shaft that performs best for them without professional help. It’s important to find a skilled fitter with a launch monitor to find the right shaft to maximize your performance.”

According to Robertson, “terms like stiff or regular flex are so generalized, they essentially mean nothing. Different sections of the shaft can be totally different flexes.” Manufacturers design shafts for three different sections; 1) butt (the grip end), 2) midsection and 3) tip sections. They can produce shafts that are soft in the middle, stiff at the tip, and medium in the butt or any combination imaginable. Robertson adds, “Club fitters understand the profiles of shafts. If a player needs something with a softer tip section and a stiffer butt section, they know which shaft has that profile. Club Champion’s understanding of how to fit golfers is an integral part of any club being successful in a player’s hands. “

Embrey adds, “Flex specifications are impacted by torque – a misunderstood shaft specification. Many golfers believe lower torque means better shafts, which is not necessarily true. Seasoned fitters will often choose a higher torque shaft for smoother, slower swingers to help get the ball up in the air faster and create spin. Lower torque is better for players that swing aggressively.”

Afable believes custom fitting is very important. “Shafts with various weights and flexes react differently to individual heads. Some retail stores sell shafts off a wall. The problem is they may or may not be the right shaft for you. Furthermore, the builder who installs the shaft may not know how to trim it correctly which is where things can go wrong. It is essential to find a highly skilled fitter, like Club Champion, who understands the difference and are trained to properly fit and install shafts.”

There is an enormous difference between club manufacturers’ stock shafts and higher-end, aftermarket models Tour professionals play. Typically, cheaper shafts are made from lower grade materials. They’re manufactured in larger quantities in places like Mexico and Vietnam, which often means watered down tolerances. Exotic materials from Japan maintain very tight tolerances, not only for weight or flex, but straightness and roundness of the shaft. When a shaft is not rolled or manufactured properly, there will be gaps within the layers of graphite, which can really affect performance. Embrey adds, “Mostly, OEM shafts do what they're intended to do, but they're not designed to dial players in.”

Club Champion uses a unique coupling system allowing golfers to hit any combination of heads and shafts. They find combinations that solve a golfer’s problems. Most fitters use club carts provided by club manufacturers, however, they are unable to mix-and-match across carts to determine the ideal combination. Club Champion offers hundreds of shafts, many not available through most other fitters and retailers.

Sherburne believes golfers should start thinking about what value they put a on their golf game. “Sometimes people come in and say they’ll just get something off the shelf because spending $500 to get an extra 20 yards isn’t worth it. That 20 extra yards is two less clubs into the green? Hitting pitching wedge instead of 8-iron, you’re going to hit more greens. I can almost guarantee that 20 yards is going to knock two strokes off your handicap.”

Club Champion delivers a Tour-quality fitting producing longer, more accurate shots with a nearly 100% satisfaction rate. Whether looking to buy new clubs or just fix your current set, a premium club fitting is the answer. Many assume that premium fitting is only for great golfers, but a 2017 Golf Magazine fitting study found that high handicappers improved even more dramatically. With 31 studios across the country and seven more coming in the next three months, Club Champion is ready to improve your game. Don’t just buy clubs, buy guaranteed improvement. Exhibit by Aberson presents Emily Morgan Brown, McKenzie Dove and William Mclure

TULSA, OKLAHOMA , USA, March 29, 2018 / — Exhibit by Aberson is pleased to present a selection of works from newly represented artists, Emily Morgan Brown, McKenzie Dove and William McLure opening March 29th from 6 until 8 PM at Exhibit by Aberson located at 3524B S Peoria Avenue, Tulsa OK 74105.

While studying portraiture, Emily Morgan Brown’s vision for botanical tapestries developed from her research on the ancient technique of grisaille painting – a form of grayscale underpainting to reference relief sculptures. After photographing her floral subjects to paint, she found that she had a hard time disposing of them after they had wilted and died. “As I crumbled one into my hand, the idea of making it into a tempera wash just made complete sense. It really felt like the missing piece and tied the materials back to the period in history I had originally referenced with grisaille,” says Brown. She views the large-scale grayscale botanical works are a lesson in history and a record of today allowing the subject to live on forever in its own portrait.

McKenzie Dove has always painted, but after experimenting with oils and palette knives 11 years ago, she developed her unique style and technique that achieves a thick, layered texture. “I just fell in love with the way the color mixed on the palette and created texture,” she explains, “I wanted to transfer that to the canvas and I got addicted to it.” Heavily inspired by interior design and architecture, Dove paints with the forethought of the space that her piece will occupy in someone’s home or business. “I feel like my pieces are versatile enough to work with any type of design – modern or traditional. I study interiors that I love and think about what I could paint that could be fitting for that space.”

Honing his taste and aesthetic as an interior designer at an architecture firm, William McLure quit his job of six years to pursue his passion, art. A darling of the virtual world, he was able to make the shift to full-time artist (and freelance designer) almost seamlessly by developing a commission list within five months via Instagram. Often large-scale, mixed media and graphic, yet abstract, the viewer is in constant awe of McLure’s prolific and varying techniques. His work seems to morph alongside his interior design inspirations – currently a fan of neutral tones and pops of contrast and color. “It’s been really amazing, and I’m so humbled to wake up every morning and be able to do both my passions everyday: art and interiors.”

The results of the conference. Warm reaction to our project EIP PlATFORM.

TALLINN, KESKLINNA LINNAOSA, ESTONIA, March 28, 2018 / — The EIP team has just returned from a conference that took place at the annual festival SXSW (South by Southwest) in Austin, Texas.

A couple words about this festival. SXSW (South by Southwest) is an annual mainstream festival which unites famous, popular, creative, smart and talanted people from all over the world. SXSW includes music, cinema and media festivals and conferences. At all these events people can introduce themselves, surprise public whith their skills, talantes, ideas, projects etc. SXSW is a popular event for a large amount of people. Being a little bit concervative state, every year Texas allures not only ordinary people, but famous stars, big Brands and companies, even the first persons of the state.

Attention to the esports grows day by day. This fact was approved by creating a separate section dedicated to esports. SXSW 2018 was a sighnificant event for the future development of esports.
This festival showed that people are really interested in development of esports. Gamers, streamers, fans are ready to develope their universe and share it with other people. Esports is a fantastic world with fantastic opportunities for everybody.
The most important thing, that people who has moderate relation to esports are extremely engaged in processes of esports development. Big Brands and companies realise, that the world of esports is a world of future. That's why they are waiting for interesting and ambitiouse projects in which they could invest their money.
Another interesting fact, that sports unites esports. This festival was attended by many famous and professional sportsmen. For example Rick Fox – ex professional basketball player and an actor actively supports the development of esports. He stands that sports and esports should go hand in hand.
We need to say, that the speech about our project EIP ecosystem was warmly recieved by guests and participants of the festival. Our speakers were just absolutelly buried in questions from participants of the conference. Everybody wanted to get more information about the project, about it's characteristics and key moments. And eventually the main question was: "When?". Our team showed themselves as a real professionals and answering the questions they presented and promoted our future project.
To sum up people wait and hope and we can't let them down. We are working and believe in our success!

William Lightner talks life, education and traveling the globe in God's name

William Lightner

It's hard not to be envious of sales and finance executive turned evangelist and public speaker William Lightner.

MARIETTA, GA, UNITED STATES, March 27, 2018 / — The former military man and finance professional, feeling his true calling lay elsewhere, turned his back on the nine to five life and made it his mission to travel the world as a servant of God.

"I thank my education for the decision," says William Lightner, crediting his time at Judson University, Illinois, for the path his life has taken.

"Judson University was an outstanding college for me because of the higher education setting and their worship of God," he adds. "The university made me into the man I am today."

Following an early private Baptist school education, Lightner would join Vestal High School, New York, before leaving for Judson University in Illinois. From here, he enrolled in the military before embarking on a successful career in sales and finance.

Years later, in a complete change of pace, Lightner made the decision to leave the world of mainstream employment. Instead, he was to undertake a six-month training and development process as part of a well known religious mission.

Undertaking the mission's training would subsequently see him board the first of many flights which were to take him across the globe.

"I've traveled tens of thousands of miles on a journey which has taken me to 28 different countries," says William Lightner. "It's changed my life forever."

In his new life, Lightner has personally assisted hundreds of individuals, the world over, in finding comfort in God.

"I've also addressed vast crowds, often numbering as many as several thousand at a time," adds Lightner.

He continues, "I teach them to acknowledge fellowship, as well as faith through prayer. I do this so that they can live a more sound life as a follower of Christ."

Now well recognized as an evangelist and successful public speaker, Lightner knows what it takes to succeed in this life.

"I believe that, regardless of the topic, there are three main factors which every speaker should consider," he says. "These are being personal with the crowd, showing passion, and being powerful with words."

Of his work with the religious mission, Lightner further goes on to say, "I'm honored to be connected with such a great group."

"They're one organization I love doing work for," he adds in closing.

Soon after takeoff from Athens, four terrorists commandeered the flight, diverting it to Libya for refueling. They flew to Entebbe Airport in Uganda where, on June 28th, Ugandan President Idi Amin welcomed them. A list of demands was received on June 29th, calling for the release of 53 convicted terrorists held in Israel and other countries. The incident was a huge worldwide story.

The hijackers released some of the passengers who did not appear to be Israeli or Jewish and threatened to kill the rest if their demands were not met by July 1st. As a delaying tactic, Israel agreed to negotiate. In the early morning hours of July 4, 1976, an Israeli force of up to 200 soldiers landed at Entebbe and rescued most of the hostages. The terrorists were killed, as were three hostages and one Israeli soldier, the leader of the rescue force, Lt. Col. Yonatan Netanyahu.

An elderly British passenger, Mrs. Dora Bloch, had been sent to a hospital before the raid; her body was later found. Mrs. Bloch’s airline ticket is included in the archive, the overall condition of which is mostly fine and is worthy of further research. The other four movies that dramatized Operation Entebbe were the American TV films Victory at Entebbe (1976) and Raid on Entebbe (1977); the Israeli movie Operation Thunderbolt (1977); and The Last King of Scotland (2006).

The rest of the auction is packed with rare and collectible autographed documents, manuscripts, books, photographs and relics. A strong candidate for top lot is a Mohawk Indian land deed dated March 1726, depicting the land marked with hatchets on trees, signed by Hendrick Theyanoguin (“the brave old Hendrick”), a Mohawk leader and member of the Bear Clan. The deed is signed by eight other Mohawk leaders. Included are photos and red wax seals (est. $25,000-$30,000).

Two Rev War-era lots have identical estimates of $12,000-$14,000. One is a book consisting of transcribed letters, including eyewitness accounts from Valley Forge, White Plains, Rhode Island and elsewhere, with an emphasis on military hospitals, carried by Continental Army infantryman Minne Voorhees. The other is a 1785 partly engraved document signed on parchment by George Washington, as “President of the Society of Cincinnati”, housed in a period gilt patriotic frame.

Thomas Jefferson lots include a letter written and signed by the third President from his home in Monticello, dated Sept. 28, 1821, in which he waxes poetic on book collecting and scientific knowledge outside our borders (est. $25,000-$30,000); and a partially printed grant document signed by both Jefferson (as President) and James Madison (as Secretary of State), dated May 6, 1805, awarded to proselytize Indians with a unique hand-drawn plot plan (est. $4,500-$5,500).

A Civil War-era letter written and signed by Brevet Maj. Gen. Robert Anderson, to the Rev. Dr. John McVickar of Cresson Springs, Pa., regarding the re-raising of the American flag at Fort Sumter, dated July 22, 1861, should bring $10,000-$12,000; and a carte de visite photo of Robert E. Lee (1807-1870), signed by the Confederate general (“R.E. Lee”), depicting him in a suit and tie, circa 1866-1870, taken at the studio of Boude & Miley (Va.), is estimated at $3,500-$4,000.

An archive of 14 letters (47 pages total) written and signed by Amos B. Eaton, a West Point graduate who served in the U.S. Army for nearly 50 years, to his wife Elizabeth, from 1832 to 1837, regarding the Black Hawk War and containing pro-Indian content, is expected to realize $8,000-$10,000. Also, an order and envelope from 1865, addressed to Elizabeth Custer, the wife of Gen. George A. Custer, regarding his reassignment to Texas, should command $1,000-$1,200.

A lovely single page manuscript document written and signed by Marie Antoinette, dated May 6, 1785, addressed to the Treasurer General of the Royale, concerning funds “for maintenance and food for several of our officers during the year,” has a pre-sale estimate of $8,000-$10,000; and a charming letter written by U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Marshall, to his wife Mary, dated March 11, 1829, reporting that “business seem to agree with me,” should make $4,000-$5,000.

A letter written and signed by President Abraham Lincoln to the Austrian Emperor Archduke Franz Joseph – a link connecting one later slain world leader to another – with the U.S. seal attached to the envelope, dated Feb. 18, 1864, has an estimate of $7,000-$8,000. Also, Lincoln’s perfect signature on an ornate document, penned just weeks after he issued the Emancipation Proclamation, also signed by Secretary of War Edwin Stanton, should garner $6,000-$7,000.

A bi-fold letter boldly signed by Charles Darwin, dated Nov. 29, 1870, right before his book The Descent of Man, composed to his publisher on behalf of a request by the wife of fellow scientist George Cupples, seeking an application for a government pension, is expected to fetch $7,000-$8,000. Also, an archive of correspondence between the anthropologist and archaeologist Louis Leakey and Birute Galdikas, about orangutan research in Indonesia, should make $3,000-$4,000.

A document signed by President James A. Garfield on Feb. 18, 1881 regarding the appointment of the great-grandson of Moses Austin to replace his father as postmaster of Benham, Texas, rare because Garfield only served as President for four months due to his assassination, should rise to $7,000-$8,000. Also, a first-edition hardcover copy of Big Game Hunting in the Rockies and on the Great Plains (N.Y., 1899) by Theodore Roosevelt, signed by him, should hit $3,500-$4,000.

A rare Schutz-Pass (protective ‘pass’ functioning as a Swedish passport during World War II, in Hungarian, dated Aug. 19, 1944 and initialed by Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg, to protect Paul Aschner from wearing the infamous yellow star, is estimated at $7,000-$8,000. Also, Harry Truman’s personally owned St. Christopher medal charm, presented to him on his 65th birthday, engraved on the reverse with “H S T May 8, 1949”, carries a pre-sale estimate of $5,000-$6,000.
