BLOOMFIELD, NJ, UNITED STATES, August 30, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – A diverse selection of artworks that span from the 17th century through to the modern day – to include a spectacular offering of Self-Taught and Outsider Art being offered from the Namits Collection and an equally exciting group of works from the Westervelt Corp. – will come up for bid at a Fine Art Auction slated for Sept. 12th by Nye & Company Auctioneers.

Also for sale are a number of fabulous frames supplied by firms such as Eli Wilner & Co., one of the leading antique frame dealers and restorers, based in New York. The mid-week sale will be held in Nye & Company’s gallery, at 20 Beach Street in Bloomfield. The full catalog is available for viewing at www.nyeandcompany.com, as well as LiveAuctioneers.com and Invaluable.com.

“Whether you like Dutch Old Masters or contemporary works by artists like Robert Motherwell and Helen Frankenthaler, this sale has something to suit your every taste,” said Andrew Holter of Nye & Company Auctioneers, adding, “The group from the Namits collection, in particular, is wonderfully expressive, visually stimulating and reflective of the talented artists who created it.”

The Namits group includes works by Thornton Dial, Purvis Young, Jimmy Lee Sudduth, Harriet Wiseman and Justin McCarthy. It also features a nice selection of paintings and sculpture by European artists such as Francois Bard, Jean-Pierre Ceytaire and Charlotte Cuolot. “We invite everyone to come view the works in person at the live gallery preview or online,” John Nye said.

The aforementioned work by Helen Frankenthaler (Am., 1928-2011) is certain to attract much bidder interest. It’s a color etching and aquatint from an edition of 60, titled A Page from a Book III. Also, a drypoint figural etching by the renowned American mother-with-child artist Mary Cassatt (1844-1926), titled Gardner Held by Mother, signed in pencil, will also come up for bid.

The oil on plywood by Purvis Young (Am., 1943-2010), titled Freight Train, is from the artist’s Good Bread Alley era (1972-1975). The Harriet Wiseman (Am., 20th century), work, also an oil on plywood, is titled Woman with Red Jacket and is artist signed, dated (“02”) and gilt framed.

The oil on panel effort by American folk artist Jimmy Lee Sudduth (1910-2007), titled Bear Bryant, is pencil signed. Not every artist in the sale is American. The oil on canvas painting by Jean-Pierre Ceytaire (French, b. 1946), titled La Plage, is signed, dated (“77”) and framed.

The selection of works from the Westervelt Corporation includes two exceptional pieces by Felix Kelly (U.K., 1916-1997), both of which are superb commentaries on the progression of America. One is an oil on board titled Riverboat and Railroad, Daytime, artist signed lower right, dated (“1976”) and with a label on verso from the Kennedy Galleries, Inc.

The oil on board by Edward Lamson Henry (Am., 1841-1919), titled Open Door, is initialed and dated (“1872”) and bears labels on verso from Christie’s, Kennedy Galleries and The Bernice Gallery. Included is a typed note stating it is a picture of the Henry Ives home in Goshen, Conn.

Other offerings from the Westervelt Corporation include an oil on canvas by Raoul Mallais (U.K., 1901-1999), titled Bringing in the Grey Mare, with an accession label on verso; and an oil on canvas by Frank Wootton (Am., 1911-1998), titled The Last Fence, signed and dated “1969”.

Fans of the Old Masters will be intrigued by the oil on canvas Portrait of an Artist from the Circle of Caspar Netscher (Heidelberg 1639-1684 The Hague, the Netherlands). The half-length portrait is rendered with a palette, marble busts and an orange tree. It’s signed “Netscher f”.

Additional noteworthy artworks in the sale include an oil on canvas by Wilson Irvine (Am., 1869-1936), titled Stone Wall Old Lyme, signed “Irvine”; an oil on panel by Aaron Birnbaum (Am., 1895), titled Yellow Building Farm Landscape, signed lower right; and a colored pencil on paper by John “Jack” Savitsky (Am., 1910-1991), Sun Maids, signed, dated (“65”) and framed.

The auction will begin promptly at 10 am Eastern. Telephone and absentee bids will be accepted. Previews will be held in the Bloomfield gallery Monday-Friday, September 3rd-7th, from 10-4; and Sunday, September 9th, from noon-4 pm. Light refreshments will be served on auction day.

Chinese 19th century porcelain blanc de chine figure of the Guanyin, 13.5 inches tall.

Pair of late 19th/early 20th century Chinese Sancai glaze stoneware Foo Dog roof tile finials.

Early 20th century Chinese temple size cloisonne censer, 34 inches tall.

Pair of early 20th century Chinese cloisonne pedestals, 34 inches tall.

Dr. DiCenzo's enthusiasm for Japanese culture and Asian culture overall are brilliantly displayed thru his superb collection of fine decorations and furniture.

Dr. DiCenzo's collection was perhaps one of the most extensive in Ohio. Any enthusiast of East Asian culture, craftsmanship and décor will be sure to appreciate this auction.”

— Serena Harragin

CLEVELAND, OHIO, UNITED STATES, August 29, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — CLEVELAND, Ohio – The private collection of the late Dr. Ronald J. DiCenzo, the former Professor of History and East Asian Studies at Oberlin College in Ohio – whose enthusiasm for Japanese culture (and Asian culture overall) are brilliantly displayed through his superb collection of fine decorations and furniture – will be auctioned on Wednesday, September 12th, by Gray’s Auctioneers & Appraisers.

The auction will be held online and in Gray’s showroom, at 10717 Detroit Avenue in Cleveland, starting at 10 am Eastern time. For those unable to attend in person, online bidding will be available through the Gray’s website, GraysAuctioneers.com, and at LiveAuctioneers.com and Invaluable.com. Telephone and absentee bids will also be accepted. Dr. DiCenzo passed away on November 4th, 2017.

“Dr. DiCenzo's collection was perhaps one of the most extensive in Ohio,” said Serena Harragin, CEO of Gray’s Auctioneers & Appraisers. “While most of the lots are Chinese in origin, there is also a wide variety of Japanese artifacts, such as the set of 12 woodblock prints or the authentic Katana with Saya. Any enthusiast of East Asian culture, craftsmanship and décor will be sure to appreciate this auction.”

Lot 307 is a beautiful watercolor and ink scroll by early 20th century Chinese calligraphy artist Pu Jian (1893-1966), also often referred to as Pu Jin. A member of the Manchu Imperial family and a cousin of the last emperor of China, Pu Jian was part of an elite Beijing painting circle known as the Songfeng huahui, or the Pine Breeze Painting Society. Most of its members were relatives of the Imperial family.

Pu Jian lived through a tumultuous period in modern Chinese history. His surviving works demonstrate a devotion to traditional Chinese painting and crafts. The scroll, titled Scholar in a Landscape, depicts a Confucian scholar and his attendant traversing a bridge by a waterfall, surround by dense foliage depicted vividly in the traditional style practiced by Pu and his contemporaries in the Songfeng huahui.

Lot 398 is a large Japanese burled elm wood Tansu chest with brass mounts from the 20th century. A longtime fixture of Japanese homes, large size cabinets such as the one up for auction are designed to be disassembled into smaller pieces for easy relocation. The word Tansu is derived from two Japanese characters – tan and su – which refer to the storage of food and the carrying of firewood, respectively.

Lot 15 is a pair of Chinese “Foo Dog” roof tile finials. While erroneously known as “Foo Dogs” in the West, the mythical creatures depicted in these finials and many other pieces of traditional Chinese art and sculpture are actually lions. These guardian figures have long been a fixture of Imperial Chinese heraldry, ceramics and architecture dating back at least as far as the Han Dynasty in the 6th century AD.

Leading off the auction this month is a wonderful collection of Chinese blanc de chine ceramic figures. Known to the Chinese as Dehua porcelain, blanc de chine porcelain production dates back to the Ming Dynasty and is produced in the town of Dehua, in the Fujian province. First exported to Europe in the early 18th century, these ceramics became internationally renowned for their uniquely pure ivory tone.

Lots 1-8 are blanc de chine figures of Guanyin, the sacred bodhisvattas of Chinese religion and folklore. Lot 9 is a large singular male Foo Dog. Lot 10 comprises two smaller male Foo Dogs with a Guanyin. Lot 11 is a matched pair of male and female Foo Dogs. Lot 12 is a collection of six smaller blanc de chine decorative items, including Guanyin, Budai (or “Laughing Buddha”), Gautama Buddha, and a small lidded bowl. Lot 13 is a 9-inch blanc de chine vase depicting mythical creatures in relief.

Lot 96 is a Chinese blue and white porcelain basin. Lot 65 is two palace-size blue and white porcelain vases. Lot 110 is a large Chinese archaic style storage vessel. Lot 114 comprises two large porcelain vases depicting birds resting on flowered branches. All are fine porcelain. Famille jaune, noire, rose and verte are French terms that classify Chinese porcelain by the dominant element in its color palette.

Lot 20 is a lovely famille jaune porcelain vase. Lot 28 consists of two famille rose porcelain vases. Lot 24 is a pair of famille jaune fishbowls. Lot 26 is a famille verte vase. Lot 18 is a pair of eye-popping high relief vases. A number of Japanese ceramic objects are also up for auction, including Lot 437, a Japanese Imari porcelain lidded jar, and Lot 467, a fine pair of blue and white Japanese porcelain vases.

Over 30 lots of cloisonné will be offered. Highlights include a large temple size censer in Lot 255, two large pedestals in Lot 262, two incense burners in Lot 261, two smaller wood and cloisonné pedestals in Lot 263, a pair of large vases in Lot 264 and a pair of double gourd vases in Lot 265. Cloisonné is a time-honored technique for affixing gemstones, colored glass or vitreous enamel to metalwork objects.

Finely detailed carved wood and stone items are also up for auction, including a carved hard stone landscape depicting figures huddled around a cliff side temple beneath a tree. The detail work and color of this object are exquisite. Lot 238 is a pair of carved elm architectural brackets, depicting the fearsome visages of a dragon clutching an embroidered ball, an example of magnificent craftsmanship.

Lot 372 is a large carved hardwood drum depicting another dragon, Lot 208 is a set of six brilliantly carved hard stone figurines, Lot 342 is a carved and gilt lacquered plaque depicting birds resting among a dense thicket of floral plants, and Lot 343 is a similar gilt and lacquered wooden plaque, depicting an aquatic scene of fish and squid surrounding a waterside shrine. Many other lots will also be featured.

In all, more than 500 lots will come up for bid, and bidders can view the catalog now, in its entirety, at GraysAuctioneers.com. Gray’s will open for in-person previews from September 6th thru 12th; Monday thru Friday, from 10am-5pm, and Saturday from 12 noon-4pm; or by appointment. All times Eastern.

Dr. DiCenzo received his Ph.D. in Japanese history from Princeton University in 1978. As part of his studies, he spent several years in Japan during the 1960s, where he first began collecting the wide variety of beautiful antiques now up for auction. As part of the Oberlin faculty, he galvanized student interest in Japan on campus as it was rising as an economic and cultural superpower in the mid-1970s.

DiCenzo went on to help Oberlin College affiliate with the newly-formed Associated Kyoto Program consortium of colleges in the U.S., through which he sent scores of students for study abroad in Japan.

A Lovingly Look at Florists’ Web Reputation in North America.

When Lovingly looks at florists’ web reputation in North America it's all about building trust.

“For Lovingly, building trust starts with local businesses and it extends to gift-givers and recipients,” says Ken Garland. “That means optimized ecommerce websites, along with a suite of features and services inclusive with partnership.”

GDPR, California Privacy Act, Google Search Best Practices, Oh My! It all comes down to building trust.

For Lovingly, building trust starts with local businesses and extends from there to gift-givers and recipients. That’s how Lovingly creates long-term success.”

— Lovingly co-founder and managing partner, Ken Garland.

FISHKILL, NY, USA, August 29, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Google rewards higher domain authority and, therefore, creates a higher search page ranking to https-secure* websites that have the ultimate recipe of relevant, fresh content, impeccably presented with mobile-friendly technology and stellar reviews. (*August 2018: According to Lovingly research, only 40% of NA Florists have fully secure websites.)

The Trends Speak for Themselves:
Savvy online shoppers demand elegant user-experiences for gifts and floral arrangement websites. If not, they run for the hills. Or, more precisely, they search for another website that gives them what they want, when they want it, without hiccups. In other words: They want simplified, streamlined, secure and satisfying online shopping experiences. That optimal experience provides a seamless connection between retail solutions and compelling content. Moreover, it is delivered flawlessly by developing trust with the shopper and by providing a comforting experience for the gift recipient.

All This, and Challenges To Spare:
Over the past 10 years, the contraction of real, local florists along Main Street North America has been pronounced. The most helpful technology providers to these groups position their business for the mobile shopper. They also counter the ill effects of Order Gatherers masquerading as real, local florists, when in fact they act as middlemen, often stripping away any viable margin from floral arrangement sales. Retail florists can up their success rate by pivoting with the times while helping shoppers celebrate life’s special moments. It’s all about embracing intuitive technology that supports meaningful relationships up and down the distribution chain.

On Facilitating Trust at Every Touch:
The recipe for success with shoppers is pretty basic: Give them 100% secure websites (Google Standards, all pages encrypted – not just the checkout page), proactive privacy compliance (GDPR), impeccable online reputation management, best practice search optimization/SEM while providing an enjoyable, productive user experience. As for the California Privacy Act, Lovingly acknowledges, proactively follows and will consider the implications well before the Bill’s implementation currently set for Jan. 1, 2020.

Tech providers can best align with retailers by providing them with user-friendly tools to defend their roles in their local community. This strategy alone goes a long way to stem the loss of these meaningful contributors to the social fabric of Main Street, North America. In fact, Lovingly created a HTTPS status checker tool, for free, so that any floral business could check the status of their website, regardless of whether or not they are a partner. That tool can be located here: https://www.lovingly.com/u/is-your-site-secure

Add to that, Lovingly Weddings provides an example of fortifying flower shops; it’s a free referral system for engaged couples. It builds trust while streamlining and improving the on-boarding process of Wedding Clients to Lovingly Partners. And it works simply by taking pesky frustrations off the table in a Floral Services Wedding Consult.

Education also builds trust between florists, gift shoppers and their recipients. It helps close up the gap between expectations and capabilities. To further the cause, Lovingly has delivered online business-building consulting on a one-to-one basis to partner shops. Lovingly also provides Ebooks for Best Practices in Online Floral Sales, holds business seminars at Floral Trade events and sponsors Floral Designers’ continuing education seminars.

Then there’s the recently announced Lovingly U, which adds another level of commitment to educational content to bolster trust in the real, local flower shop offering. Lovingly is presently building the education team while drafting the curriculum and the distribution model. The new Lovingly U web page can be viewed as of August 27, 2018.

“For Lovingly, building trust starts with local businesses and extends from there to gift-givers and recipients,” says Lovingly co-founder and managing partner, Ken Garland. “That means optimized ecommerce websites, along with a suite of features and services inclusive with partnership. No hidden fees. No long lists of additional charges. Craftspeople can’t build relationships with their clients with stumbling blocks at every step. Great user experience and support is for everyone. That’s how Lovingly creates long-term success.”

The Trend is Trust!
In ecommerce and the gifting techspace, it’s extremely beneficial to be fully compliant with Google. Lovingly continues to advocate for best practices at every touch between the distribution chain and the consumer. It’s the surest path to build trust and a powerful recipe for online success for everyone involved.

The Lovingly Outlook:
The European/US governmental dialog (Privacy Shield) shouldn’t stop the online floral industry providers from erring on the safe side of always building trust for shoppers, for their recipients and the distribution outlets — they’re real, local florists and community heroes.

Trust Comes First… Online consumer loyalty, stronger relationships and higher conversion rates follow.

About Lovingly: Lovingly strengthens relationships through meaningful gift-giving and shared experiences. Founded over ten years ago, the company has introduced many firsts to the online floral industry.
