RetailNext Forecasts Strong 4 to 4.5 Percent Holiday Growth for U.S. Retail Sector

Mobile Commerce to Continue Driving Sales Increases as Retailers Close Out a Better-Than-Expected Year

SAN JOSE, CA, UNITED STATES, September 13, 2018 / — Today, RetailNext Inc., the worldwide expert and market leader in IoT smart store retail analytics for optimizing shopper experiences, announced a strongly positive forecast for U.S. retail performance over the upcoming November through December holiday period, projecting a 4-4.5 percent year-over-year jump in sales, driven largely by a 15 percent increase in YoY sales through online channels.

Based on broad macro-economic data and current retail trends, RetailNext’s forecast for U.S. retail stores during Holiday 2018 (November – December) includes:
• A 4-4.5 percent increase in overall sales YoY for the U.S. retail sector (excluding automobiles and petroleum), but with relatively tight margins consistent with recent holiday seasons
– Digital sales will grow at a slower rate, but will still increase 15 percent YoY
– Brick-and-mortar store performance will rebound from recent years, but will likely fall short of posting positive YoY gains
– Top seasonal performers will include beauty, toys, off-price, warehouse clubs, home improvement and home furnishings segments
• The holiday season will push total annual retail sales well above $5 trillion in 2017, with e-commerce sales breaking through the $500 billion mark
• Black Friday will provide physical stores their highest shopper traffic day, but “Super Saturday” December 22 will be the biggest day in terms of in-store sales

“The last several years have seen U.S. consumers begin their shopping earlier and earlier, sometimes before Halloween,” said Lauren Bitar, head of retail consulting at RetailNext. “Promotions will start early and that will impact the continued erosion of Black Friday, for while Black Friday will continue its reign as brick-and-mortar stores’ most heavily trafficked day, it will not be stores’ biggest day in terms of sales.”

“Shoppers will continue their trend of waiting for deals, not only on merchandise, but shipping as well,” continued Bitar, “and with four shopping weekends in December waiting to serve procrastinators, I fully expect retail’s biggest days at the register to be at the end of the holiday season.”

Forecasted top store shopper traffic days
• Friday, November 23 (Black Friday)
• Saturday, December 22 (Super Saturday)
• Sunday, December 23
• Saturday, December 15
• Friday, December 21
• Saturday, December 8
• Sunday, November 25
• Wednesday, December 26
• Thursday, December 20
• Saturday, December 1

Forecasted top store sales days
• Saturday, December 22 (Super Saturday)
• Friday, November 23 (Black Friday)
• Sunday, December 23
• Saturday, December 15
• Saturday, December 8
• Sunday, December 16
• Friday, December 21
• Saturday, December 1
• Thursday, December 20
• Wednesday, December 19

“I expect a nostalgic bump in sales for toys as the American consumer continues to mourn the loss of Toys ‘R’ Us and jilted suppliers work with existing retailers to offload excessive inventories,” said Bitar. “Additionally, the toy market for adults continues to expand with collectibles, board and card games and retro releases. And, beauty will win out based both on gift-giving and self-indulgence.”

“For retailers to win, they’ll need to make product assortments easy to navigate for gift givers who will be looking to get in and get out as quickly and easily as possible. Categories like apparel should go beyond traditional gender and age groupings and instead use images to illustrate to gift givers how products can be worn or used, how they look and go together in combination, something very important for e-commerce sites too as categories like beauty lose their tactile experience behind a screen. Lastly, providing good, easy product wrapping that can be picked up in-store will win hearts, so more and more retailers will follow the lead of brands like Sephora and provide easy-to-assemble gift boxes and bags that don’t require wrapping at all.”

Retail Performance Pulse flash reporting over Thanksgiving weekend
To empower retailers and enable media to benchmark performance with frequent, near real-time updates, RetailNext will again publish its daily Thanksgiving Flash, a composite of key in-store retail metrics for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Based on the monthly Retail Performance Pulse, the Flash is developed from specialty and large format retail stores on the RetailNext analytics platform within the continental United States, and will be available to RetailNext customers and media outlets starting Friday, November 23.

Newport RI Sailing Charter Yacht Hope San Offers Sunset Cruises On Narragansett Bay

Newport RI Sailing Charter Yacht Hope San Offers Sunset Cruises On Narragansett Bay

NEWPORT, RI, UNITED STATES, September 11, 2018 / — Patrick and Monika Abrecht who each hold a Yacht Master Certificate from the Swiss office of maritime navigation, moved from Switzerland to Newport RI in 2001. Patrick Abrecht then attended the IYRS (International Yacht Restoration School). After graduating from the IYRS program to become a Shipwright, he and Monika spent many years lovingly restoring Hope San to her original condition. This beautiful wooden sailing vessel is available for private sailing charter, with USCG (United States Coast Guard) licensed Captain Patrick Abrecht at the helm, accompanied by Monika as First Mate. Sailing tours of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay on the Hope San charter are available for full day, 4 hour or 2 hour charter time slots.

The Hope San crew also offers 2 hour sunset cruises on Narragansett Bay, to view the twilight colors along the Newport and Jamestown RI coast. Departure times vary depending on seasonal sunsets and bookings are flexible if need be.

About Hope San
Designed by Boston-based naval architects John G. Alden & Co, Hope San was built by the Cheoy Lee Shipyard in Kowloon—a region of Hong Kong—China, in 1958 for Charles E. Burt, who had her shipped to Cape Cod. She was originally named Sai Shun, which means Little Boat in Chinese.

Patrick (who is a USCG licensed Captain) and First Mate Monika honor Hope San’s incredible legacy by keeping her in beautiful shape to honor Hope San’s 60th year by sailing her as much as possible.

Hope San is a Nordfarer design, has a yawl rig, a classic full keel, and measures 41 feet, 7 inches overall. A true classic sailing yacht with elegant lines and a pedigreed cruising history, she is one of a few—perhaps only two—Nordfarer designs built entirely of wood: her masts are laminated spruce, her frames, floors and keel are constructed out of yakal (an extremely dense and strong tropical hardwood) and her planks, brightwork and interiors are made of teak.

Over the decades Hope San has raced in the Museum of Yachting Classic Yacht Regatta in Newport, Rhode Island annually, with a full crew of family members guiding her to several class victories. With her photogenic lines and sleek black hull, Hope San appeared in numerous yachting magazines, including Sailing and on the cover of Cruising World in 1986.

Hope San can be chartered by small families or groups of up to six people for private day sails on Narragansett Bay. Click here to inquire about charters.

— John Reznikoff

WESTPORT, CONN., UNITED STATES, September 11, 2018 / — WESTPORT, Conn. – A superb John Hancock signed manuscript from 1783 in remarkable condition, plus items pertaining to other signers of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, Judaica, JFK and family, Rev War, U.S. presidents, Napoleon and other foreign leaders, Bruce Lee and more will be in University Archives’ online-only auction, slated for Wednesday, September 26th.

Live bidding will begin at 10:30 am Eastern time. In all, 288 lots will be offered in a sale packed with rare and highly collectible autographed documents, manuscripts, books and relics. The full catalog can be viewed now, at www.University Internet bidding will be provided by and Telephone and absentee bids will also be accepted.

“As we enter the new auction season we’re very proud of our current offering, most of which has never been on the market before or not in a long time,” said John Reznikoff, president and owner of University Archives. “We’re very happy with our range of material. Where else can one buy a book signed by Jefferson, a Napoleon at war letter, a Malcolm X letter on a postcard and a Bruce Lee signed certificate? We service an international clientele, with bidders in over 50 countries.”

The signed Hancock manuscript, with an estimate of $4,000-$5,000, is a superb document, one in which Hancock, during Revolutionary War times, signs with a bold version of one of the most recognizable and famous signatures in history. Mr. Reznikoff observed, “This is exactly how Hancock signed the Declaration of Independence. He wanted to make sure King George III would not miss his imprint.”

Another famous Declaration signer, Thomas Jefferson, is represented with a book from his personal library written by Maximilien de Bethune, which Jefferson recommended for historical and legal reading and one he personally signed (est. $16,000-$18,000); and a Congressional Act signed by Jefferson and dated Aug. 10, 1790, authorizing Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton to finish construction on a lighthouse project in Portland, Me. George Washington didn’t sign the Declaration, but he’s still hugely popular with collectors. A Rhode Island lighthouse keeper’s provisional contract from 1790, signed by Washington and William Ellery (who did sign the Declaration), should hit $12,000-$14,000; while a handwritten letter to Ellery from the ever popular Alexander Hamilton regarding duties and tariffs, while Hamilton was the Secretary of the Treasury and negotiating the Compromise of 1790, should make $5,000-$5,500.

Abraham Lincoln is represented with six lots, including a letter handwritten by Martin L. Bishop to his friend and esteemed legal counsel dated Nov. 16, 1858, in which Lincoln replies with his handwritten advice on the third and final page regarding Bishop’s patent ownership and pending lawsuits. The letter is estimated to sell for $8,000-$10,000.

Collectors can never get enough of JFK and Marilyn Monroe. This auction features two original first-generation glossy photos from Kennedy’s after-party bash at the Krim residence, hours after Monroe sang “Happy Birthday Mr. President” to him at Madison Square Garden. One shows Diahann Carroll singing at a piano, with various guests looking on, including Monroe (est. $800-$900); the other shows JFK talking to singer Maria Callas and Adlai Stevenson (est. $3,000-$3,500).

A rare letter written by Kennedy in May 1944 to his friend from Harvard Richard Flood, while both were still in the Navy and months after the destruction of JFK’s boat the PT109, in which Kennedy makes a never before seen anti-Semitic remark, has an estimate of $8,000-$9,000. Also, a one-page letter written from prison in December 1999 by the late crime boss John Gotti, to Barbara De Cicco, in which he tells her to “have a Christmas martini for me,” should fetch $1,000-$1,200.

Fans of Bruce Lee will have several lots to consider, including a superb and highly ornate printed document dated Jan. 30, 1968, signed by Lee and promoting his close friend Herb Jackson to the First Rank of the Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute; and a rare photo of Lee, signed and with a personal inscription to Herb Jackson, “To a dear friend of the family, Herb, Peace, Love, Brotherhood, Bruce,” with a Chinese character below his name. Both lots have estimates of $20,000-$24,000.

A vellum hand-illuminated manuscript signed by Czar Alexander II of Russia, undated and written in Cyrillic (seven pages on four sheets), in which Alexander grants Adam Ilyn Galonen, a medical officer in the Russian Navy, a coat of arms, should reach $5,000-$7,000. Also, a one-page war letter written in French by Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) on March 11, 1807, from Germany during the Polish Campaign, War of the 4th Coalition, should garner $1,200-$1,500.

A letter written and signed by “Malcolm X” on the message side of a picture postcard of New York City, dated Oct. 22, 1958 and addressed to Gloria Owens in Cleveland Ohio, in which he says, “Happy you were able to hear The Messenger” (meaning Elijah Muhammad) is expected to finish at $3,500-$4,000; while a first edition presentation copy of Alex Haley’s literary triumph Roots (Doubleday, 1976), signed and inscribed by Haley to “Cora”, should rise to $400-$500.

An original first-generation photo of two lifeboats from the RMS Titanic, taken during the rescue mission by a passenger aboard the rescue vessel RMS Carpathia, showing passengers in lifeboat #6 (containing “the Unsinkable Molly Brown”), is expected to command $2,000-$2,400. Also, a check for $500 from 1961, signed by baseball great Jackie Robinson and Marion Logan, with the money earmarked to help harassed white families in New Orleans who had defied segregationist picket lines to send their children to newly integrated schools, has an estimate of $1,200-$1,400.

As with all University Archives online auctions, this one is packed with important, scarce and collectible signed documents and other items relating to some of the most famous names in all of history. The firm has become world-renowned as a go-to source for rare material of this nature.

University Archives was founded in 1979, as a division of University Stamp Company, by John Reznikoff, who started collecting stamps and coins in 1968, while in the third grade. Cris Crochet Shop embarks on another adventurous collection to encourage our mini explorers to connect with nature

Autumn Collection of crochet hats and scarves with woodland animal theme

Our Woodland Friends Collection by Cris Crochet Shop

Let our children's imagination and love of nature thrive with Our Woodland Friends Collection as they explore the great outdoors.

SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND, UK, September 11, 2018 / — Cris Salerma, crochet gift designer and milliner extraordinaire, is very excited to release Cris Crochet Shop’s latest Autumn Collection on the 17th of September 2018. Our Woodland Friends is a collection of fun handmade crochet hats and scarves with the theme of woodland animals – fox, hedgehog, rabbit, ladybird, frog, owl, and deer. Our designer is very fortunate to have access to woodland in Sheffield, and has been inspired by the overarching ethos of her community of encouraging everyone, especially children, to connect with and respect our woodland neighbours. Watching her daughter explore and interact with some of these creatures in their local woodland has sparked the designer’s imagination to create this amazing Autumn Collection.

With the emerging trend of city dwellers moving to the country in the UK (, Cris believes that educating the next generation about taking care of our countryside is much more imperative today as it has ever been. The woodland critters featured in her new Autumn Collection are just some of the creatures that suburbanites have spotted “visiting” our gardens. We need to remind ourselves and teach our children that we are the visitors, and to respect and care for these beautiful creatures as they have been living here way before we decided to settle in the countryside.

Our Woodland Friends Collection lets children’s imagination run wild, and gives them a choice of being a sly red fox, a prickly hedgehog, a floppy-eared rabbit, a black-spotted ladybird, a jumpy green frog, a googly-eyed owl, or an antlered red-nosed reindeer. These fun woodland animal hats and scarves may be acquired individually or as a set – according to your mini explorers’ woodland personality. All crochet hats and scarves are handmade by the designer using the softest locally-made yarn from Yorkshire. Hence, not only do these fun woodland animal hats and scarves delight your special youngsters, these will keep them warm and toasty these milder seasons.

Our Woodland Friends Collection ranges in price from £10 to £50 (12 USD – 65 USD), and will be exclusively available from Cris Crochet Shop on Etsy from the 17th of September 2018 ( Members of the Cris Crochet VIP Club are given exclusive previews and discounts on all collections. You can join either through our Facebook Group (, or by joining our e-mail newsletter ( Apart from the Etsy shop, you can also find Cris Crochet on Instagram (, as well as Facebook (

Known for inspiring parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles with handmade gift ideas, Cris Crochet Shop lets them delight the beloved children in their lives with creative crochet fun hats and delightful gifts. The shop was the result of Cris’s new-found passion for crochet and delighting her daughter. Prior to starting her shop, our designer was a professor of engineering in Manila, a research associate in Tokyo and London, and a local teacher of science and maths. Cris’s crochet skills only came about after the birth of her one and only daughter 5 years ago. This was a complete surprise for her family and friends as crafting involving fabric was a complete no-go activity for Cris as she was always last in class growing up in Manila. While watching and nurturing her daughter grow, her crochet skills grew as well with every gift giving opportunity, mostly for her friends’ tots. The inspiration for her first collection, which was the rainbow unicorn hat, a Christmas gift for her daughter’s best friend, was the trigger in which the shop was started. Since then, Cris Crochet Shop’s most loyal customers have enjoyed gifting their special little (and not so little) people with her fun and whimsical creations. Cris Crochet Shop has been featured in the Star Tribune, Daily Herald, The Press, Oxford Times, Boston Herald, Northern Echo, Digg, Union Tribune, and The Herald, as well as the Spire Vintage Fair, Greystones Craft Fair, Whirlow Hall Farm Fayre, and the Film & Comic Con Sheffield.

The spectacular coastlines & beaches of Port Stephens are set to play host to a weekend of off road action for triathletes, mountain bikers & trail runners.

NEWCASTLE, NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA, September 11, 2018 / — The spectacular coastlines, beaches and national parks of Port Stephens are set to play host to a weekend of off road action with triathletes, mountain bikers, and trail runners set to descend upon the region on 22 and 23 September.

Athletes will be gearing up for round two of the seven race national TreX Cross Triathlon Series where they will take on the challenge of a swim, mountain bike and trail run in a race to secure a place in the team to represent Australia at the ITU MultiSport World Championships to be held in Spain in 2019.

The TreX series has long been at the forefront of this unique form of triathlon in Australia which takes the traditional format of the sport and mixes it with a huge helping of heart, guts and dirt, where the challenge is as much with mother nature as it is against other athletes.

World Qualifier (WQ) contenders will tackle a challenging 1,000m swim in beautiful Fingal Bay, followed by 25km of heart pumping XC (Cross Country) mountain biking in Tomaree National Park, and then finishing off with an 8km trail run experiencing the expansive coastal vistas that Port Stephens is famed for. The event also includes sprint, junior, teaser and dirt kids courses with something for all ages and abilities.

TreX is coupled with the launch of an all new four race Australian Trail Running Series, Trail Run Australia which will tempt runners off the beaten track with a half marathon, 11.5k or 6k trail run based around the Fingal Bay coastline and Tomaree National Park.

The course holds some special experiences for athletes as Event Director Robyn Lazenby told us,
“Events start at beautiful Fingal Bay and challenge athletes with a diverse array of terrain and scenery. From the beauty of Tomaree National Park, to the expansive views from coastal trails, to the challenge of the Samurai Dunes and awe inspiring white sandy beaches this course showcases the very best of this spectacular region.
Athletes might even see one of the many migrating Humpback or Southern Right Whales, or a friendly school of dolphins along the way, like we did on our last visit.”

Based on the NSW Mid north coast, Port Stephens is a 2.5hrs drive from Sydney and offers a winning combination of beaches, national parklands and rugged coastlines. The location offers the perfect backdrop for off road triathlon and trail running making it an ideal weekend for hardcore racers, weekend warriors, families or those who just want to get into the great outdoors to visit one of Australia’s most scenic regions and enjoy the challenge of off road racing.
