New Board Game Kess is Popular with Adults and Children

The rules of Kess are simple, but the skill ceiling for players is sky high

APPLETON, WIS., UNITED STATES, September 30, 2021 / — A new, lightning-fast, one-on-one board game, Kess, is growing in popularity across the country, establishing what its creators believe is the beginning of a Kess craze.

From its home base in Appleton, Wisconsin, games startup KESS, LLC created Kess after years of trial and error.

Like checkers, chess and Go, the rules of Kess are simple and can be learned in a few minutes. But like checkers, chess and Go, the skill ceiling is sky high and players discover new, deceptive and daring strategies every time they play.

The Kess “battlefield” is a seven-by-seven-inch grid of squares, just a bit smaller than a chess board, and each player gets 10 pieces. When the game begins, the action is fast and furious because each player gets five moves per turn, making for a quicker but more tactical playthrough. Each turn is more like an onslaught, rather than the execution of a single play. To take an opponent’s piece, it only needs to be surrounded on three sides.

During games, players formulate and unleash new formations to trick opponents and pull off merciless attack patterns.

Players engage in an audacious game of wits that lets them quickly slip into a “strategy brain” and they get totally lost in matches as they try and peer into the future, pick apart the board and attempt to predict the moves of their opponents.

Hundreds of strategies can be employed during a game and there are trillions of ways a game can unfold, allowing endless skill building and constant surprises.

Like all great strategy games, Kess forces players to utilize sneak attacks, fake-outs, perspective and decision-making in order to defeat their opponents.

Children love the ultra-simple rules and the colorful board and game pieces. Adults enjoy the hidden depth of the game, as it forces them to think outside the box as they balance offense and defense.

For more information about playing Kess, or to purchase the game, visit Visitors to the site can also subscribe to a newsletter and get invited to online tournaments.

A digital version of Kess is also available for free in the Apple Store and on Google Play.

About Kess
We are KESS LLC, a small startup based out of beautiful Wisconsin. All we do is make board games. And Kess is our first product. Kess is a game of strategy that is really fast moving, thus it is suitable for those of us who like games to move fast and who get to win or lose fast. And it is 100 percent skill based, there is no element of luck, so if you have a fast brain, you could be really good at Kess. It really has been a long, long time since a really original board game came out. So, we thought, let us make one that is original, moves fast, allows strategic thinking and yet is super fun for the whole family. We are working on the online version of Kess, but nothing beats being able to play with a real board and real pieces. Kess is the kind of game you could play on your porch or on the beach or at the park. Everybody gets to have a whole lot of fun and that is what matters.

Magician Ash K. Accuses National Publics Radio and PRX of Conspiracy To Ignore

NPR & PRX Conspicuously Take Zero Interest in a Super-Nerdy Thing: Magicians Touring the 48, Continental States

SAINT LOUIS, MISSOURI, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, September 30, 2021 / — Having gathered a pool of reluctant witnesses/reporters, San Francisco based magician Ash K. let the midwest know his displeasure at being roundly ignored by any and all NPR reportage and shows. "I mean sure magic isn't great on radio, but I have a magnificent accent, and Kevin bathes daily. That ALONE should have made us NPR featured story regulars for the whole, 120 day tour."

The two magicians began their historic tour of the 48 continental states on July 1st, and are now about three-quarters through their unprecedented tour. "Sure we're not actually using the pictured car, but that's not the point! We commit pointless, harmless fraud on all sorts of entertainment fronts! The goal has always been to bring affordable shows and magic classes for adults and kids, as well as magic just inches away, known as close-up magic."

"And why in particular does Bill Maher not invite us on the show?" At that point, a sane person in the crowd pointed out that Bill Maher is in fact neither a NPR nor PRX employee. Ash K. responded, "What is your proof?! He is amusing, and reads the work of those guest authors before they come on. Of COURSE he works for NPR and/or PRX! Do your own research!"

Magician Undeterred by Exit of Remaining Attendees
As the majority of the small group closed their laptops and notepads, smiled as they gazed at their watches or pretended to get a call they had to take, and made their exit, the demonstrably unusual half of the "magic show drive across america" went on, undeterred.

"Has anybody ever seen Terry Gross and Bill Maher's producer in the same room?" he questioned the two remaining people avoiding his gaze. "No they have not. Coincidence? I think not! And sure, Peter Sagal had David Blaine on 'Wait Wait Don't Tell Me' once, but that's because David is famous, and Peter is taller than him! Everybody knows that!"

Ash K. continued, "Marketplace, Morning Edition, Fresh Air, It's Been a Minute, The Takeaway, TheWorld, PBS NewsHour, This American Life, Says You, All Things Considered, Freakanomics, Radiolab, Reveal, Snap Judgement On the Media, Best of Our Knowledge, Hidden Brain, Latino USA, Weekend Edition, The Moth, The New Yorker Radio Hour, Hear and Now, Humankind – what do they ALL have in common?" he asked the now almost empty room. One brave soul raised their hand, "Uh, excellence in programming, and a high regard for their audience?

"Maybe smarty pants," responded Ash K., hands on hips, "but clearly they hate historic magic tours!" The remaining two people packed their bags, waved goodbye, as one was heard to say, "Ash K. seems … interesting."

Two Different Styles
Ash K., aka Northern California’s funniest magician, was named the BayList Winner in the arts & entertainment category by readers of The San Francisco Chronicle and Hailing from the tiny Eastern European country of Balka (he helpfully explains, "Go to Poland, and make a right – can't miss it."), Ash K. is often described with quirky and vaudeville come to life.

Kevin the Cap practices what he calls Smart Magic for Smart People. Like Ash K., he is a Magician Member in good standing of the internationally recognized Academy of Magical Arts, known for its clubhouse, Hollywood's Magic Castle.

Zoom Shows, Too
His business partner having just successfully made a small room of humans vanished, Kevin the Cap went on record, because there was nothing else to be done: "You just go to the website,, pick which one of us you want to see, and which show – from strolling magic to a full stage show – and fill out the form. I will then confirm, you sign and get us your deposit, and you're all set for seeing some GREAT magic, LIVE! We guarantee your satisfaction, money back guaranteed."

About the Tour
Kevin the Cap explained the historic significance of the tour: “Several scholars told us that we are the first to drive through the continental 48 states & D.C. in a season. From ancient times until the 1940s, entertainers rode on horses, then in wagons, and then cars from town to town, bringing their comedy acts, ventriloquism, gymnastics, dramatic readings, and magic acts to crowds eager for diversion and something different.  With the rise of movies nearly a century ago, then aviation, that migratory version of our profession disappeared, and entertainers simply take a plane to their next engagement. We’re both a bit of a throwback, and audiences love it.”

*  Ash K. & Kevin the Cap will continue to adhere to public health protocols as determined by the CDC and individual communities. * *

The MOLAA Gala Committee is committed to making every detail of this event memorable including a special concert by the internationally renowned Latino, rock, and hip-hop band from Los Angeles, Ozomatli. And, elevating the experience even more, thanks to a collaboration with the Santo Tomás Winery in Baja California, Mexico and Sauza Tequila, the winery will introduce its own celebratory wine and Tequila bottles featuring the concept and vision of renowned designer Sami Hayek. Hayek's inspiration for the wine bottle comes from population density in the largest cities in Latin America, and as for the Tequila, the designer will oversee both the design and the product itself.

The 25th Anniversary Gala will also celebrate the accomplishments of LA-based and world-renowned heroes through its anticipated LEGADO Awards. This year’s honorees are Jaime Jarrín, the Hall of Fame broadcaster who has been the Spanish language broadcast voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers for almost 62 years, who will receive the LEGADO Lifetime Achievement Award; the World Series Champions Los Angeles Dodgers will be recipients of the LEGADO Community Commitment Award for their support to multiple Latino communities in the US and abroad; and artist and activist Dr. Judith F. Baca whose significant contributions to the art world, muralism and the community of Los Angeles through activism have made her worthy of the LEGADO: A Legacy for the Arts award, who currently has a retrospective exhibition at MOLAA.

“Being honored for the work that gives me such great pleasure and which connects the Spanish speaking community to the best team in baseball is a special joy,” said Jaime Jarrín in response to being honored with the Legado Lifetime Achievement Award. “This award presented by the Museum of Latin American Art makes it even sweeter. I look forward to celebrating on November 13 in Long Beach, and, hopefully, another celebration before that day!”

In response to receiving the MOLAA Legado Community Commitment Award Los Angeles Dodgers President & CEO, Stan Kasten said, “From the time Walter O'Malley envisioned our coming to Los Angeles, the Dodgers have known the importance of a profound relationship to the Latino community, especially here in Southern California. Our connection has shown itself in so many ways, from Fernandomania all the way to this year's celebration of "Los Dodgers". We are so pleased to be recognized for our community commitment by MOLAA and to be included with the founding mother of mural art in Los Angeles, Judy Baca, and our beloved Jaime Jarrin.”

Monster Mash-ing Real Life with Tech

While the youngest Potters, princesses, and dinosaurs enjoy Halloween, they also get the added elements of fun and safety of living in the digital age.

AUSTIN, TX, UNITED STATES, September 29, 2021 / — Halloween brings joy to kids as they fill pumpkin buckets to the brim with candy while walking with friends dressed in yards of sequins, feathers, and scales.

While the youngest Potters, princesses, and inflatable dinosaurs get to enjoy this thrill, they also get the added elements of fun and safety by living in the digital age.

Parents can offer their kids a special device, like the Pinwheel smartphone, so their kids get all the benefits of a phone, without distracting from spooky celebrations.

Leading up to the big night, families can listen to podcasts created for kids that are just spooky enough to give the willies, but not the nightmares.

The “Grimm, Grimmer, Grimmest” podcast re-tells old favorites in a dramatic style with full sound effects, in front of a live audience full of kids. The “Creeping Hour” is a series, better suited for older kids that enjoy work by authors like R.L. Stein. The “Revenge of the Creeps” podcast is hosted by a 6-year-old girl who makes the episodes playfully frightening.

Kids can open Spotify for not only creepy podcasts, but also to find Halloween playlists created just for them. Parents that subscribe to Bark can even monitor what their child is listening to. Bark will also scan text messages and alert parents of cyberbullying, depression, and more.

Children can send photos of themselves and their family, decked out in full costume, to their aunts, uncles, and grandparents. And parents of kids that use Pinwheel phones can review texts through the Pinwheel Caregiver Portal. Parents that stay behind on Halloween night to pass out treats can watch their kids’ GPS location to make sure they’re staying on the planned route.

While technology opens many positive avenues for families, research shows that it’s important to use devices in a healthy way. Parents can role model how to balance technology use with being present in the moment.

For some people, it’s second nature to pick up a phone for mindless scrolling once the pumpkin is carved, or when the bad actors in the low-budget movie are too painful to watch. Instead, parents can take the opportunity to nibble candy corn and interact with their kids in real life.

(From L to R: Future, Lil Durk, FaZe Kaysan)

FaZe Kaysan arrives today with his debut single “Made A Way” feat. Lil Durk & Future (Listen HERE). The release comes days after Kaysan was announced as the newest member of FaZe Clan, the world’s most prominent gaming organization. The track, available via UnitedMasters, was co-produced with WondaGurl [Kanye West, Drake, Travis Scott, JAY-Z] and is already gaining buzz after Charli D’Amelio posted two TikTok videos to the track this weekend, which have collectively garnered over 15 million views. The music video starring all three artists will be released soon.

“It was a lot of fun connecting with Kaysan on this project,” says WondaGurl. “He has a great vibe and is super enthusiastic, two things that are really important to me when I’m working with new artists. Kaysan has a vision for himself and is driven to succeed and make his mark.”

“Kaysan is an extremely hard worker and I’ve seen how motivated he is to show everyone what he can bring to the table,” says Kaysan’s Creative Director RAYSCORRUPTEDMIND. “I’ve been in the music industry for a while now and it's refreshing to see an artist like Kaysan who not only believes in himself and is willing to put the work in but makes everyone who comes into contact with him feel special.”

“Beyond Kaysan's skills as a producer and DJ, his ability to uniquely identify and bring various creatives together for a single project is his superpower,” says Darren Yan, Head of Talent at FaZe Clan. “He had a complete vision for this project and every collaborator from his co-writers to the featured artists to director of the music video were all precisely calculated in his mind. Not many can execute in the way Kaysan can and that was a driving force of why FaZe Clan signed him as our first artist.”

FaZe Kaysan, producer, DJ, creator and artist embarks on the FaZe lifestyle as not only an artist, but also as a gamer, asserting himself as an inimitable multi-hyphenate whose impact fissures through music, video games and culture at once. FaZe Kaysan is notably the organization's first ever in-house music artist and gamer hybrid. The announcement video released earlier this week sees Kaysan being welcomed into FaZe alongside all of his closest friends, who happen to be some of the world’s favorite influencers, content creators and artists like Diplo, Charli & Dixie D'Amelio, Addison Rae, Noah Centineo, Noah Beck, Taco, Adin Ross, Madison Beer, StassieBaby, Kyle Kuzma, Nikita Dragun, Larray and Luka Sabbat to name a few. Click HERE to watch.

About FaZe Kaysan:
FaZe Kaysan simultaneously charges forward as a music artist and a gamer, asserting himself as an inimitable multi-hyphenate whose impact fissures through music, video games, and culture all at once. Standing out as FaZe Clan’s first-ever native music artist, Kaysan distinguishes himself as a rare talent who's original music with GRAMMY® Award-winning hip-hop titan Future is equally as compelling as his Call of Duty streams and gaming content. Growing up in Los Angeles, music found him at a young age. He studied piano for seven years and excelled during recitals. He also vividly recalls maxing out the memory of his old school RAZR phone with classics such as Linkin Park’s “In The End.” Music festivals offered a much-needed escape from a turbulent and often trying high school experience as he fully immersed himself in hip-hop and electronic music. He went on to pick up Ableton and started to create music of his own, cooking up beats at a prolific pace. At the same time, his love for gaming continued to grow and he began to attract a following on Twitch, playing franchise favorites such as Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, NBA2K, and more. Everybody from Adin Ross to members of FaZe Clan raided his streams, attracted by both his sheer talent as a gamer, sense of humor, and subtle mystique. FaZe Clan became instantly intrigued by his quiet influence. His name floated around mutual social circles occupied by FaZe Clan members for months, piquing curiosity about him and inspiring them to want to know more. He linked up with FaZe Temperrr in 2020 and officially joined as a member in 2021, and will be announced as their newest signing imminently. Now, he traffics in a lane of his own at lightspeed, and will make his debut with a massive single, “Made A Way” [feat. Lil Durk & Future].

About FaZe Clan:

The bronze sculpture of Harriet Whitney Frishmuth's "Crest of the Wave" is available at Pook & Pook

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, September 29, 2021 / — Leading the second session of Pook & Pook, Inc.’s upcoming Americana & International auction is Crest of the Wave. It is a bronze sculpture by Harriet Whitney Frishmuth, a leading sculptor of early 20th-century America. She is known for her energetic pieces that capture athletic nudes in motion, like Joy of the Waters. It shows Slovenian model Desha Delteil jerking her foot away from a cold wave. After a patron saw Joy of the Waters in a neighbor’s garden, he wanted a version for himself. So Frishmuth created the modified Crest of the Wave piece in 1926 to prevent any feelings of competition between her neighboring patrons. The available bronze is one of 22 casts produced by the Gorham Foundry.

The upcoming sale will also present a bronze sculpture of a man’s head from one of Harriet Whitney Frishmuth’s contemporaries, Elie Nadelman. The subject wears a rounded hat tipped jauntily to one side. His features are sharp and defined with a particularly pointed chin. Born in Poland, Nadelman amassed a significant collection of folk art while sculpting almost exclusively in an early Greek style. The auction catalog includes bronze pieces from other key artists of the 20th century, including Malvina Hoffman, William Zorach, Eduardo Paolozzi, and Dame Elisabeth Frink.

Several notable pieces of fine art are on offer as well. Among them is a Mickey Mouse color screenprint from Andy Warhol’s Myths series. Launched in 1981, this series immortalized American pop culture icons and covered them in diamond dust. The available print is numbered 147 of 200. Collectors will also find a drawing from Damien Hirst that depicts a skull, butterfly, and shark, as well as a landscape painting by Eric Sloane. Antique furniture items will also be up for bid, including a Queen Anne walnut high chest, an American Federal three-part secretary desk, and a Chippendale marble and cherrywood side table.

Interesting lots included in this event:
– Harriet Whitney Frishmuth bronze fountain

– Andy Warhol Mickey Mouse screenprint

– Elie Nadelman bronze Man's Head

– Massachusetts Federal three-part secretary desk

– Massive carved limestone fireplace mantel, 18th c.
